Kansas City Station
Kansas City, MO
This casino, sited on the banks of the Missouri River, holds some
SKY ART records. At 120,000 square feet, its the biggest ceiling
weve painted to date and also took the most time to produce
six months. Records for most interesting job-site were also
made due to tough conditions. The SKY ART team drove 60 foot boom
lifts on an uneven dirt surface containing "surprise"
pits, and painted at night next to the river using brilliant lights
to illuminate the 45 foot tall ceiling which was inside of an open
area. We also spent much time flailing at and getting bitten by
some of the millions of bugs attracted to the lights, while seeing
most of the rest commit suicide in the wet paint as we sprayed,
so much so that the smooth ceiling looked acoustical. Add that we
watched helpless while birds, thinking it was a real sky, crashed
headlong into the ceiling and it is clear what a difficult
experience it was. On the up side, a vast open design provided the
opportunity for an unusually large panorama.
