Pumas On Parade -
Sky Prowler

Sky Prowler is one of twenty-nine works of art created for Pumas on Parade, a public art project sponsored by the San Juan Mountains Association. SJMA identified the puma as its symbol of wildlife awareness and asked 29 different artists to express this awareness by crafting their art on a larger than life casting of a puma sculpted by renowned artist Rosetta.

Karen Kristin's Sky Prowler is painted to mirror the sky, with earthly clouds and a starry universe containing the twelve zodiacal constellations. The fire of life is shown flowing in a fluorescent river from head to tail, infusing the puma with a prescient glow. A tri-cube base painted with copper, silver and gold elements provides a yin balance to secure the yang energy embodied in the spirit of the
animal.

When all twenty-nine pumas were sold at auction, Sky Prowler was purchased by 'The Friends of Cortez,' and has been made available on loan to various public and private entities in the City of Cortez as well as in Montezuma County. A limited edition of postcard sets with images of all the painted pumas has been published and is available through SJMA and at the Montezuma or San Juan Forest Services.
