Symbolic Paintings

Following a serious challenge to her physical health in 1978, the style of Karen's art took a drastic turn. Emotionally dark expressionist painting gave way to delicate water colors and acrylic spray paintings that dealt with spiritual subjects and incorporated sky imagery in the exploration of universal symbols systems.
In searching for the symbolic essence of Taoism, Buddhism, the Tarot, astrology, numerology and graphology, Karen's goal in her symbolic work to provide the viewer with a background against which his or her own inspiration can occur.
Seen here are selections from Karen's I Ching trigram and hexagram series, from her watercolors of the four elements of Greek and Roman mythology, and from her acrylic paintings of the five element system developed in India and China.
